Your guide to running Invincible VS Community Tournaments

A Message To All Tournament & Event Organizers

We want you to play Invincible VS™ however you like, whether casually or competitively, by yourself or in organized tournaments, and any other way you can come up with. If it’s tournaments you’re after, you’re in the right place. To help foster support for Invincible VS competition, we’ve put together these official Invincible VS Community Competition Guidelines.

As long as you follow these Guidelines, you’ll have our “okay” to your running Invincible VS at events, on stage, and on stream. We’ve also made sure to provide resource kits linked below to help make your Invincible VS competition all the more awesome. Make sure you read this whole page and agree to these Guidelines in full before doing any of that. But if you have, welcome! We’re excited to see all the great things you’ll do!

Who does this apply to?

These Guidelines apply to grassroots tournament organizers. Basically, if you’re trying to run your own event, this document applies to you. However, if you represent a brand, business entity or government interest that wants to run an Invincible VS tournament, you’ll need to speak with us directly at [email protected]. If you’re not sure which you are, you’re probably okay, but you can contact us to double-check.

Summary

  • Grassroots organizers: this is for you!
  • Business & government entities: ask us first!

What kinds of events are allowed?

You can run any kind of competitive event you can think of! We’re cool with in-person events and online events. If you can come up with something other than an exhibition, invitational, single elimination bracket, double elimination bracket, group stage, round robin, or swiss, then let us know, because, well, that would be awesome and we’d love to know about it.

Other than that, we just want to make sure that you’re running things well and that the community can enjoy themselves at your events.

However: Please do not make Tournament Organizing decisions in bad faith. Don’t run any scams. Don’t rig any brackets. Don’t promise something without following through. Make sure you follow the law, which includes any regulations and other rules that are specific to your city, county, or state. We can’t list everything, but the fighting game community and the competitive video game community at large have a well-understood set of expectations for competitive play, and we’ll expect you to abide by them.

If you want more information on how to run a strong tournament, here’s a handy guide: LINK.

Summary

  • No restrictions on competitive format
  • Deliver on the expectations you promise
  • Abide by community expectations

What kinds of event fees and prizes are allowed?

You can charge any venue and tournament entrance fees you want, with a few limitations. First, make sure that the fees are fair and provide for actual value to your entrants and attendees. Second, announce any payouts and prize terms in advance and stick to your promises. You don’t have to know exactly how much money or prizing you’ll be giving out, since we know that can depend on the number of entrants, who donates what, and so on. But in those cases, stick to splits that you announce beforehand.

Third, you’re only allowed to charge fees and pay out any prizes if doing so is legal where you’re running your event. This varies widely by location, so make sure you do your research and know you’re fully complying with all laws and regulations that apply to you.

Summary

  • Any entrance fees are your call, but keep them reasonable
  • For prizes, publicize your prizing structure in advance & deliver on what you promise
  • Follow all applicable laws & regulations

Can events be broadcast or recorded?

Sure, we love watching you play our game! You’re welcome to stream or upload footage of Invincible VS anywhere you like, except that if you want to broadcast it on traditional broadcast television (also called “linear”), you’ll need to contact us first.

Just make sure that your footage (“Footage”) doesn’t violate anyone else’s rights, whether in music, graphics, or any other creative works. All we ask in return is that you let us freely use your Footage for our own purposes in any media at any time. Who knows when we’ll want to show your event some love!

Summary

  • Yes, just do it legally, and not on TV (unless chatting with us first!)

Is there a code of conduct required?

As we mentioned above, we want to ensure that players have a good time playing in your events. Part of that is about how they’re treated in brackets, but another part is how they’re treated as people. For that reason, you and your event should not allow any bigotry, harassment, threats, violence, excessive negativity, or other jerk behavior.

We can’t spell it all out for you, but it’s a good idea to create and enforce your own code of conduct.

Summary

  • Don’t be a jerk
  • Don’t let other people be jerks either

Are there any rules about sponsorships?

In general, we’re all for you getting sponsors for your events. That said, to help keep the Invincible VS community open and inviting, we ask that you avoid certain types of sponsors. These include:
