Learn how Rebel became... Bulletproof!

If you’ve been keeping an eye on Invincible VS tournament Top 8 graphics on social media and the Ranked Leaderboard in game, there’s one name that you probably spotted consistently at the top – Rebel. We had the pleasure of catching up with the recent CEO Champ and Creator Coalition member to learn more about their start in the FGC and even picked up some tips for you to use in your games!

Check out our first ever Player Spotlight interview with Rebel below!

What’s up Rebel! Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into Fighting Games. What was the first one you played, what’s your favorite of all time?

I got into fighting games because while I was in college a Smash player came to hang out and play MKX with us back in 2015. Obviously, he knew how to play fighting games better than any of us so nobody could beat him. I’m very competitive and don’t like losing so I spent all of the next summer trying to get better. I watched twitch streams from Scar, Sylverrye, REOMK and others to help learn. Eventually within the next year, I was able to beat him every time. So MKX was the start for me getting into the FGC. My favorite of all time is probably MKX because it’s the reason why I’m here today. It was such a creative game and fast paced.

What stood out about Invincible VS to you that made you want to give it a try and ultimately invest a lot of time in?

I really like the IP of Invincible so that was a plus and I mained Omni-Man in MK1. Then what also was big deal for me was that there wasn’t a legacy hill for me to climb like there is for Tekken, Street Fighter, Guilty Gear and many other fighting games out. Being able to start fresh from ground 0 with everybody learning the game from scratch was very appealing to me.

You’re a self-proclaimed “Labber.” I would love to hear more about your approach when it comes to practice in fighting games. Do you have a training/warm up routine before running matches. What do you look for when labbing out a new character for the first time?

Labbing is honestly my favorite thing about fighting games. It’s also why I usually prefer to play undiscovered characters. Finding new combos, optimals, OS’s, glitches, bugs, tech and then using it vs someone is the best. All the time I spent finding original tech is so fulfilling. I used original tech only I knew about to win CEO and that was the best thing about winning. Not who I beat, the money, or anything like that. Just my creativeness and hard work being what finally won the day.

What are 3 tips you would give a new player looking to get started in Invincible VS?

There’re so many good tips I could give for this game that I feel would help a ton of people level up. I’ll give 3 entry level and 3 high level tips because we can all get better still.

Entry Level tips

  • Play the tutorial! Learn how to Counter Tag and Assist Breaker or else you’ll get hit and won’t be able to play again. Not fun if you don’t know those 2 things.
  • Learn how to push block and Heroic Strike or else the opponent will put you in what feels like an infinite block string.
  • Learn your BNBs. Probably the most entry level fun thing to learn in fighting games is being able to do combos.

High Level Tips

  • Resource Management. You need to switch and cycle through your 3 characters as much as possible. This helps recover health and boost bar. They are the 2 most important things in the game. If you don’t have boost bar, your offensive and defensive options to fight will suffer greatly.
  • When on offense, you should be doing things that give you the opportunity to always beat your opponent trying to mash armor or heroic strike.
  • Don’t ever Level 1 armor when the opponent has level 3. They can react to the freeze frame of your level 1 and easily beat it out with a level 3.
Thanks so much for your time! Where can people find you on social media? What kind of content can people expect if they stop by your stream?

On YouTube, Twitch, and X @Deadlyxrebel. Most of my content is me sharing tech, funny moments, and high level gameplay like tournament matches or ranked play.
